Outcast Systems is developing a collection of web-based tools and content to help endurance sports coaches manage and organize each athlete’s big picture in alignment with their specific goals.
Some of the beliefs shaping this project:
- The most interesting parts of life are qualitative.
- The impact and importance of “Fit” are under-valued.
- Coaching is not True or False; There is no single “right way” to coach. Coaches need to adjust their approaches based on athletes’ specific needs.
- Coaches are often drinking from a firehose. Seeing for the forest for the trees in that environment is challenging.
- Coaches are more than workout creators. Coaching is more than training the physiology.
- Data and measurement are not replacements for judgment and decision. Coaching is a “decision product.”
- Coaching is a complex project. Success in the face of complexity requires a coach to empathize, distill, and clarify.
And, the current coaching tools don’t help coaches with the above areas.
“Climb the mountain not to plant your flag, but to embrace the challenge, enjoy the air, and behold the view. Climb it so you can see the world, not so the world can see you.”
― David McCullough Jr.
